The Music Lessons Fund
Are you looking for help to pay for music lessons?
Who can apply?
We welcome enquiries on behalf of young people aged 5 to 18.
Your child may want to start lessons; or perhaps you can no longer afford to continue lessons.
The families we help …
might be on benefits …
or might be facing an unexpected problem, such as sudden unemployment or illness …
or may not be able to afford lessons for all their children …
or you may have other reasons which relate to your own financial problems.
Will you be eligible for support from the Music Lessons Fund?
Usually, our answer is “Yes”, if you can answer “Yes” to these questions:
1. Does your child live or go to school in or near Wirksworth?
2. Does your child want to take music lessons, either singing lessons or to learn a musical instrument?
3. Are you unable to afford those lessons?
4. Could you pay part of the cost if we paid the rest?
5. Would you be willing to tell our Coordinator, confidentially, why the lessons would be too costly for you? (We do not intend to ask you for all the detail of your finances; that’s a private matter for you, but we do need some information, to make a fair decision.)

When will you know if we can help?
Our Coordinator will read your application as soon as possible, usually within 48 hours. She will contact you to clarify any details and then advise the trustees.
The trustees meet once a term but, if your request misses that meeting, we have a small group of trustees who can make the decision. She will then let you know very quickly.
Financing our work
To continue financing what we do, we rely on donations and grants from businesses and charities, contributions from local people and community groups, and proceeds from concerts and other events. Recently, we have received financial help from:
